Remove an input shaft bearing only after the transmission is secured, all model-specific covers and retaining devices are removed, and the correct bearing puller or remover is installed on the intended bearing surface. Apply force gradually and in line with the input shaft while following the exact service manual for the transmission model.
The procedure varies by gearbox design. The basic rule is to control the shaft and bearing, protect the case, and never substitute force for the correct access or retention steps.

Identify the transmission model and consult its service information before disassembly. Bearing covers, snap rings, spacers, and shaft movement requirements differ between designs. The tool and sequence must match the actual gearbox, not a visually similar unit.
Remove the front cover, shipping seal, snap ring, or other retaining devices only as directed by the service procedure. Confirm that all retention features are released before attempting to pull the bearing. Forcing a retained bearing can damage the case, shaft, or puller.

A dedicated input shaft bearing puller or remover is preferred when the design requires a shaped attachment. A separator, race puller, or universal puller may be appropriate only when it has a secure, approved grip on the bearing race and does not load the cage or housing.
Position the puller so its force acts directly along the input shaft centerline. The center screw or ram should bear on a suitable support point, while the jaws or attachment engage the correct bearing surface. Recheck alignment from more than one angle before applying force.

Stop immediately if the puller slips, the case flexes, the bearing does not move as expected, or the tool begins to side-load the shaft. Recheck for an overlooked snap ring, incorrect attachment, inadequate clearance, or a procedure that requires a different extractor or fixture.
Inspect the input shaft, bearing seat, case bore, seal land, and removed bearing for wear, fretting, discoloration, or scoring. Clean the mating surfaces and follow the approved installation process for the replacement bearing, including the correct driver or press support.
DNT Tools supports workshops and distributors evaluating puller configurations for real access, component size, and service conditions. For an application-specific discussion, contact the support team with the available measurements and service details.
